Creating Learning Opportunities

Hi everyone welcome back for 2009. I hope your year has started well. As mentioned in the last blog post, this year I really hope to develop and build on this ning network by opening up discussions and building questions/investigations and some action research that starts professional learning and discussion amongst the group.
This year the team i work with are embarking on and exciting project for year 5 students in our region. Every year 5 students in our region will receive a Netbook (laptop) as part of a Victorian Government trial with 1:1 learning and teaching. Some quotes:
"Students increasingly need the tools of technology to help get the most out of their education and we believe that the innovative use of technology can help students, faculty and administrators better meet the ever-increasing challenges of the 21st century," Mr Amelio said.
"Today's students are mobile, they learn everywhere. Victoria is providing them the opportunity to bring their Ideapad netbook virtual classroom with them anywhere and access it anytime."
While as you could imagine there are many challenges with this project, there is also some real excitement and engagement from teachers and students in our schools. I am interested to here peoples thoughts, experiences and ideas about 1:1 learning. As questions pop up I will post them and see how the discussions develop.
I came across this video (thanks Pete & Richard) from Teacher TV which may also start some interesting thinking and questions.
